I co-directed, produced and edited this short documentary with two classmates in the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The film explores the legacy of Irving & Exy Johnson, a couple considered to be the grandparents of modern tall ship sailing. The couple sailed around the world seven times with young crews made up of teenagers and college students. For those then-young adults, the trips were an adventure of a lifetime. Two of the trips alumni agreed to speak with us for the documentary.
The Irving & Exy Johnson twin brigantines (the two tall ships named after the couple) are stationed in San Pedro Harbor. The beautiful ships now serve as vessels to teach youth sail programs and host live-aboard staff.
